Accessible Navigation in Rise Microlearning Courses
While browsing LinkedIn earlier, I came across a post by Jacob Wood discussing inaccessible navigation in e-learning courses. Before I even got through the first sentence, I knew he was talking about microlearning courses in Articulate Rise.
Inspired by Jacob’s post and recalling my experience of auditing a similar course, I decided to create a video about navigational settings in Rise microlearning courses (I know, hold your excitement, please). The video shows which navigation setting you should use and includes a demo of two versions of the same course, one with each of the navigation options. You can watch the video below or directly on my YouTube channel.
If you want to explore these two courses with a screen reader and keyboard navigation on your own, you can visit the courses by selecting the following links:
Note: One instructional designer shared with me that they include a Continue button at the end of each section in microlearning courses created with stepped navigation in Rise, which is a workaround I had never considered and have never seen while reviewing courses.
